Currently, a lot of different agencies and organizations deal with the drug problem. Each structure solves the problem on its side. Medical institutions are treating drug addicts , the Ministry of Education decides on primary prevention. Civil society organizations, mainly are working in the field of prevention and rehabilitation.
In the rehabilitation of persons suffering from addiction, in general, there is a considerable set of different methods and approaches: individual consulting, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, outpatient care, a group of self-help and mutual aid, religious communities, labor, municipalities, Therapeutic Community (TC) and other techniques. All of them are working quite closely and effectively, but often they are in conflict, because of claims on their uniqueness. Although they all have a right to exist, as it is quite difficult to diagnose and measure the way of necessary assistance for the individual patient.
In our opinion, it is necessary to create such a powerful structure, where a patient with manifestations of dependence would receive differentiated step assistance tailored to their needs. Ability to implement such an integrated approach provides a Therapeutic Community (TC). As the TC adapts in its interior all the methods and approaches, reproducing the social structure.
Let us consider in details what is a Therapeutic Community. TC have spread throughout the world as an effective model of rehabilitation for persons with dependence on psychoactive substances. Turning to determine TC, it should be noted frequently occurring substitution of notions. In the everyday sense under the “therapeutic community” tends to understand a group of people united by a common purpose, even if the aim is the rehabilitation of persons with dependence, it does not mean that we are dealing with TC.
