It seems the new site Newsroom.co.nz has one that is not like the others. Shane Cowlishaw brings bad habits to a new creative and professional site.
First the possible theft of visions. We all know that when Fairfax has used an image without permission they love to say “hey we don’t have a source” or “We possibly stole it” with the source as “supplied.” Shane Cowlishaw is now doing this on the newsroom.co.nz.
Now call us stupid but I don’t think Air New Zealand are going to supply Newsroom with an image for use on an immigration story. But from there it just gets worse.
This Photo does not even have a source. Let us remind Newsroom that under any copyright law even if they buy the image they must provide a source. Did they use it without permission is the question?.
But then comes the unfair use of creative commons in the story, take a look at this graph:
Under creative commons license 3 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/nz/ you must provide credit to the original works, great Shane Cowlishaw did this, but they are possibly breaking the law, using these graphs illegally and could possibly face legal action. They must also provide a link to the creative commons license, they fail to do so and the use of these graphs is possibly not legal. We contacted figure.nz for comment and will update the story in the future.
Meanwhile, we suggest Newsroom breaks out a broom and cleans up removing any old baggage that has arrived via airmail.
Shane also seems to still have a love affair with Fairfax as his Linkedin reads that his main job is being a senior reporter at Fairfax:
His Facebook also reads: he still is the senior reporter at Fairfax.
So maybe he is still in love with his old job, who knows, you decide…
